The Hype Cycle of Work Trends: Fads vs. Fundamentals

Ever feel like you're constantly bombarded with new work methodologies? Agile, Teal, Design Thinking, Holacracy—they come and go like fad diets. Initially exciting, they often fizzle out because companies adopt the tools, not the principles.

Just like with diets, we know roughly what works: balanced eating, variation, and moderate amounts.

In the workplace, it’s purpose, autonomy, and mastery.

And yes, most of the hypes tend to tap into those when you look at their underlying principles. They're mostly not the problem. It's the way organizations go about them.

The endless chase for the next big thing leads to disillusionment. In fact, a never-ending cycle of disillusionment.

Don't bunny hop from Agile to Teal to Design Thinking to Holacracy.

Instead, focus on the basics.

Back to basics

Empower your employees, respect their expertise, and trust them. Real change comes from within, not from the latest work trend.

Let’s stop the cycle of hype and focus on what truly works. The fundamentals never go out of style.

Pioneers have shown this for decades.
