Buurtzorg Britain & Ireland
London, The United Kingdom
For nearly 50 years my passion has been to make work fairer, more inspiring and more fun. I have worked in more than 70 countries, doing policy and research, and since 2016 in partnership with Buurtzorg to support change in Britain and internationally
About
I am a London Irishman, with two grown-up daughters. I started my working life as a journalist, and then became a research and policy offer for a public service trade union. I began working part-time and freelance when my daughters were small so that I could share the work and joy of raising them with their mum. My book about the global experience of public service privatisation, In the Public Interest?, was published in 1993 by Zed Books, and I wrote another, In the Public Service, about how public services were being improved through more workforce and community participation. I founded my own social enterprise consultancy Public World (www.publicworld.org) in 2010. Since 2015 I have worked in partnership with Jos de Blok to support Buurtzorg-inspired change in health and care in Britain. This work is now expanding into other public services and with charities and private companies internationally.
