I've worked in companies of all shapes and sizes. I started my career in corporate HR but left after becoming very disillusioned with the way we ran business and treated the people in those businesses. The further up the greasy pole I climbed, the more lip service I found my fellow leaders paid to the "people are our greatest asset" mantra.
My life literally changed when I read Maverick by Ricardo Semler in 1994 - there was a better way! I was lucky enough to meet him when he came to the UK to speak to a crowd of non believing CXO's. I couldn't believe how hostile the audience could be.
Inspired, I left corporate life to try and jump into a more commercial role, thinking maybe that I would think differently if I was in a 'real job'! I've spent the last 20+ years in the people and technology space and I'm now CEO of a tech company. In all those years my faith in models inspired by Semler has never wavered and it's great to see that finally, the movement is growing.
I would love to connect with other rebels like me and also help other companies make the leap.
